to the Great Mates Website
You have just opened the door to new friendships with women
like yourself as well as a vast array of exciting social events!
Great Mates is a social
organization whose main purpose is to meet, know and enjoy the company of each
other and to promote a hospitable atmosphere of warmth and friendship to
BYC members, their spouses and guests.
We provide monthly
luncheons with a variety of guest speakers on the third Thursday of each month,
September through May.
Single women members and
wives of BYC members become a Great Mates member by simply attending a meeting.
Please make your
reservations at 941-722-5936, ext. 206 early each month when you plan to attend one of our
luncheons. Call a minimum of 24 hours prior to the event to ensure good
service and proper food preparation.

Great
Mates Activities for 2008 - 2009
Calling
all Past Presidents and Past Board Members! You will be honored at our
first luncheon of the 2008-2009 Year! Please mark your calendars for
Thursday, September 18th, 11:30 Social, 12:00-1:00p luncheon. Also at
this particular luncheon, we will have three charities give presentations on
their organization. We will vote for our favorite one and the winner
will be the recipient for our annual Community Outreach fundraiser in March
2009.
Regarding
the vote - only Great Mates Members are allowed to vote. It's easy to
become a Great Mates Member. Simply attend a luncheon and pay the annual
$1.00 dues, yes, that's one dollar. You must be present to vote.
We
are currently looking for a volunteer to chair this great annual event. This
is a very rewarding position! Most of the hard-working women from past
community outreach committees have already committed to being on the committee
again this year. All we need is a chairman! Are you the person
we've been looking for? If so, please contact Kimberlee Thomas or any
other board member. We've already received many letters from charities
requesting to be considered as the recipient for the annual fundraiser. If
you have a favorite charity, please contact them directly and ask them to send
the Great Mates a letter (care of BYC) asking to be considered. Once we
have a chairman in place, a group of people will tour all the organizations,
collect financial information (such as sources of revenue), and some
literature and brochures. The Great Mates Board will hold a special
meeting to discuss all the charities and to review all their financial
information. They will then vote on all the charities to take the final
number down to three. Those three will be our presenters at our first
meeting.
2008-2009
is going to be a fun-packed and entertaining year! Susan Vorpahl, Vice
President is already working on a 3 or 4 cruise for the Great Mates. We
don't know the particulars yet but as soon as we do they will be published in
the Poop Deck and here at the webpage. It will be in the early part of
2009. Susan is also planning many fun luncheons and events so stay tuned and
view this page periodically for updates.
